Kindness is a practice
not a quantity.

The holidays at the end of the year
are supposed to be about kindness and renewal. Chanukah and
Christmas are the ones I know best. There are many others – all to be
honored and appreciated. Ritual, spiritual and community
celebrations are gifts we can give one another.
But so many
people find them a burden – sense of heaviness sits on shoulders and weighs
people down – can I deal with the presents I am supposed to
give? Will people remember me? Am I invited to
holiday parties? Do I want to go? All these
social questions arise in so many hearts.
